Cardinal Flower Lobelia fulgens 'Queen Victoria'
Cardinal Flower Lobelia fulgens 'Queen Victoria'

Deep red, almost mahogany foliage contrasts well with dark spikes of bright red flowers. Butterflies and hummingbirds love it!

The perennial Lobelias have upright spikes of large flowers, not at all like the more familiar trailing types grown in hanging baskets. They are terrific plants for the boggy garden, adapting well to ‘wet feet', but growing equally well under average conditions. This popular heirloom selection has beautiful beet-red foliage, with contrasting scarlet-orange flowers from midsummer on. Excellent for using as a specimen or massing in the border, containers or tubs. Nice for cutting. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds. Generally not long-lived. Received a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (1993). CAUTION: Harmful if eaten. Deer resistant. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Winter hardy. Cut flower.

The Aqua Garden is a select mixture of these essential varieties. Marginals add height to the garden while providing some shade and shelter to their aquatic neighbors. Each colorful combination will thrive with its roots submerged just below the waterline. Deer resistant. Attracts butterflies. Container plant. Winter hardy. Cut flower.

Blooms late summer.

Uses: wet meadows and woodlands, water garden, pots and tubs
Sun to partial shade
Plant 3" or less below the water's surface
Height: 36" - 60" tall
Growability: easy
